Money wise depends on if you go freelance or get hired. Getting hired as both a designer and photographer is a little harder than one or the other. Average pricing rates for beginners (freelance) is from $25 to $50 an hour, but when you get a good portfolio together, if you're good you could get up to $75 to over $100, depending. Good luck!

You can absolutely be both. As to the wages, it depends on the market you are in and the time you dedicate to each activity.

As with any career, it is difficult to make it with a duel goal that is not exactly compatible, but it can be done. While designers & photographers have similar skills & aesthetic concepts, there r not many jobs where u have the focus on both. either you're a photographer or a designer, & unless u find yourself in a very small company where you're allowed to do both, it is more likely that ur main focus will be on one.
But, the benefit with graphic design & photography is that both r talents that u can freelance with. If u decide to focus on design & get a job at an agency (starting full-time salary for a college grad is around $25,000 - $40,000 a year), u can still be a photographer on the side. Freelance fees vary drastically, sometimes charging a flat fee for an event, or per-hour for a project. Freelancers for both design & photography usually charge based on experience, so novices may only charge $10-$20 an hour during a project, while experienced professionals might charge $50-$100 or more an hour, based on what the job is & who the client is.
You have to love both enough that u would be willing to sacrifice a lot of free time to succeed in both. Both require portfolios that must be kept up-to-date & both require a lot of self-discipline if you're aspiring to be a freelancer. To make it as a freelancer, u often have to spend at least a little time in the professional world, in order to make contacts with people who might need ur services in the future.
Best of luck!
